Who is Devon Blackwood
Devon’s accolades include licensure through the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists, certification as a suicide prevention instructor, and specialized training in trauma-focused work, among others. He is also a former member of the FBI Citizen Academy. His extensive list of achievements encompasses mentorship, board memberships, and awards, including the Army Achievement Medal for Meritorious & Outstanding Service.
Devon A. Blackwood has counseled in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital and is CEO of B.W. Associates a mental health consulting and training institute. Blackwood has earned psychology degrees from the University of Baltimore and Liberty University.
Devon has also advocated for individuals with disparities in health care coverage, mental health, and substance abuse problems by meeting with Senators in Congress and on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. He has been instrumental in
shaping public policy and education related to psychological health, suicide, substance use disorders, child & adolescent issues, juvenile justice and gun violence. He is a talk show host on Radio One and The World When Media and has hosted tons of guests locally, nationally and globally.
Credentials
Devon is a designated SAP credentialed to provide Return to Duty (RTD) evaluations and treatment for employees performing safety sensitive functions in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse (DOT).
Certificate of Effectiveness
In recognition of clinical excellence, Devon has been awarded the ACE (ACORN Criteria for Effectiveness) Certification through A Collaborative Outcomes Research Network (ACORN). The ACE Certificate provides “real world” evidence that his therapy outcomes exceed the benchmarks for highly effective treatment.

Devon has years of experience with diverse and hard to reach adolescents population and has provided addiction based consultation in John Hopkins Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Units. He has served as Program Director for Adolescent and Family oriented agencies. He has mentored youth through The Baltimore Rising, Inc. formerly named The Mayor’s Office of Children, Youth, and Families. Devon’s outgoing personality, sensitivity, deeply rooted professionalism, empathetic style, and versatility in understanding a gamut of psychological health conditions, brands him “one of the most sought out adolescent clinicians in the field.” He is a tremendous asset in his ability to provide accurate and timely clinical assessments including for judicial and court proceedings. Referrals are welcome from attorneys, courts, schools, parents, self, mental health and substance abuse agencies, insurance, EAP, and any other systems.
