Devon A. Blackwood has counseled in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital and is CEO of B.W. Associates a mental health consulting and training institute. Mr. Blackwood has earned psychology degrees from the University of Baltimore and Liberty University is an author of two books including – Beyond The Lingo: Working Through Recovery Concepts (A Guide For Addicted Persons & Their Families) published in 2004 by Cold Tree Press.  Devon has also advocated for individuals with disparities in healthcare coverage, mental health, and substance abuse problems by meeting with Senators in Congress and on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. He has been instrumental in shaping public policy and education related to psychological health, suicide, substance use disorders, child & adolescent issues, juvenile justice and gun violence. He is a talk show host on Radio One and The World When Media and has hosted tons of guests locally, nationally and globally.

Devon has licensure through the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapist, is a certified gatekeeper instructor in suicide prevention and training through the QPR institute and has specialized training in trauma focused work, cognitive behavior, client centered, motivational enhancement, and solution focused therapies. He has over 30 years of experience providing family systems therapy, adolescents, marital and adults. His specialization is adolescents and adult addictions.

Devon has mentored youth through The Baltimore Rising, Inc. formerly named The Mayor’s Office of Children, Youth, and Families. He has received numerous awards including the Army Achievement Medal for Meritorious & Outstanding Service, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 1998 Award for Community Service, City of Baltimore Citizen Citation by former Mayor Kurt Schmoke, and the Life Time Missions Award in 2004 for exemplary missions abroad. 

Devon has traveled to Bermuda with a team of mental health professionals to provide consultation and policy on suicide, mental health and addictions to the Government and the Ministry of Health. Devon also provides life coaching that focuses on a whole gamut of emotional/social health issues.
